The middle of the 19th century. An elderly bored landlord arranges balls, huntings, fist fights, and parties. Moreover, he offers his guests his serfs, boys and girls, to buy or to entertain with. One of them, Vanka Krasnov, dreams to marry the noble girl Askiusha. For this reason, he has to win the rural strong man Mitka in a fist fight. However, even after the honest victory the landlord tries to get Aksiusha. Vanka has to challenge the landlord himself.

It is a screening of the novella A Landlord by the Russian poet of the 19th century, Nikolay Ogarev.

The film shooting began in May 1923. The film was shot in the former estate of prince Svyatopolk-Mirski in Liubotyn near Kharkiv. The film was released on 04 January 1924.
